Matt Penton

Professional driver with a clean abstract and CVOR. I plan and run one of the busiest routes in the Metal Supermarkets franchise: up to 10,000 lbs of metal a day, loads up to 24′, zero product damage. I haul it, strap it, unload it and get it there. Next stop: the driver's seat of your truck.

Work.

The road so far, from the shop floor to behind the wheel.

2015 – 2017

Cutting Technician / CNC Operator

Radison

I cut blank aluminum stock to size, then stamped, brushed, drilled, tapped and chamfered parts to blueprint, or ran them on the CNC, held within six thousandths of an inch.

2017 – 2021

Order Picker to Shop Supervisor

Diversified Ulbrich

Worked my way up to running a 10-person crew in an ISO 9001 metals warehouse. I worked alongside shipping, sales and upper management to keep things running smoothly and take corrective action when needed. It’s where I found my calling in logistics and problem solving.

2023 – 2025

Delivery Driver

Artiplanto

Every week I drove a 24′ Sprinter van to Laval, helped load it and drove back to Toronto the same day. Each day after that started in Toronto and could end as far out as Sauble Beach or Windsor, with 20 to 35 stops along the way. No stop was too far, and every one got done.

2025 – Present

Driver / Material Handler

Metal Supermarkets

I plan and run one of the franchise's busiest routes, loading as much as the truck can hold: up to 10,000 lbs of metal a day and loads up to 24′, secured to NSC Standard 10 with zero damage. Some days that means a second run. 100% attendance, never late, always back at the shop on time.

  • Team player who wants to see my crew and peers succeed

Resume (PDF)

My route.

From pre-trip to post-trip, every day runs on a plan.

01 · Pre-trip

Truck checked first

A full MTO Schedule 1 inspection before the truck moves. No shortcuts.

02 · Staging

Orders sorted

I collect the completed travellers from the warehouse crew and organize every order by stop, location and material size.

03 · Loading

Loaded and secured

I load the truck and secure every piece to NSC Standard 10. Check one: every piece of material on the truck matches the paperwork.

04 · Paperwork

Slips in hand

I receive the shipping slips from the office. Check two: every slip matches the material on the truck. Checked both ways, so nothing gets missed.

05 · Delivery

On the road

Regulars look forward to seeing me, and I build a good relationship with every customer. I rarely need a GPS, and I always know another way to get the material there.

06 · Post-trip

Truck checked last

Another Schedule 1 inspection at the end of the day, so any major defect is caught tonight, not found the next morning.

On the job.

Real loads, strapped and delivered.

Why me.

What you get when you put me on your crew.

Easy to train

Show me once, I'll own it

Every machine I've been handed, from forklifts to CNC saws to my DZ licence, I've learned fast and run right. At Radison I started as a temp, and when the setup guy quit, I taught myself his job. By the end I was doing my own machine setups.

Built for challenges

Bring me the hard ones

I adapt to whatever the day brings, and a tough problem is what makes the day worth showing up for. Nothing beats solving the one nobody else could. I lead by example and show the people around me safer, smarter ways to get hard jobs done.

Dependable

The route gets done

I plan and run one of the franchise's busiest routes with a clean abstract and zero product damage. When I say a load will be there, it's there. Snow, rain or ice.

Self-sufficient

No helper needed

I load, strap and unload solo, matching tie-downs and WLL to every load and rechecking them on the road. I do my own daily inspections. Send me out, and the job comes back finished.

Mechanically minded

I keep it running

On equipment I know, nine times out of ten I can find the fault, make the fix and have it back up and running. I treat the gear like it's my own.

Equipment

Not afraid of the machine

Fifteen years on forklifts, and I'm surgical with one. Put me on something new, a bigger truck or a new machine, train me right and I'll run it right.

Projects.

What I build after the truck is parked.

01
Fabrication

500L auxiliary fuel system

Fuel stops were eating into long routes across Ontario, so I designed and built a 500-litre auxiliary fuel system for the van. More range, less downtime, problem solved.

02
Homelab

A media server for my people

I built and run my own Jellyfin media server on a custom domain, giving friends and family a free streaming service and cutting their monthly subscriptions. It's built on my college network administration training, and next I'm migrating it to Linux and Docker.

Web · Ongoing

This website

My resume tells you what I've done. This site is so you remember me. I run mattpenton.ca on my own domain and keep improving it, and the care that goes into it is the same care that goes into my work: planned out, detail-checked and finished right.

04
Up next

My first big truck

I plan and run one of the franchise's busiest routes in a 1-tonne 3500: 10,000 lbs of metal a day, loads up to 24′, zero product damage. I hold my DZ licence and I'm ready to step up to a straight truck, roll-off or flatbed. I'm glad to start with ride-alongs, a road test or a supervised training period. Safety, equipment and the route all get the same respect from me.
